Painting is a device for communication that requires the viewer to look beyond the "pretty picture" to see what is being said. One must examine the surface and see the qualities in the paint itself to understand the painter and see into her heart.
I am a Representational Artist and Painter.
My paintings tend to be quiet and intimate. They are representational, figurative, and largely autobiographical. The subjects I paint are mostly portraiture of people who are close to me, still lifes and some cityscapes. They are filled with personal statements with deep subtexts underneath that can open the paintings up to several interpretations. They are specifically geared towards the description of light.
The tactile quality of the thick and textural surfaces that oil allows is important to me; where paint is not just a vehicle to arrive at an idea but it can be the idea itself. Oil paint is more than just a tool to render. It is beautiful and spontaneous. Letting it be so is a testament to the expressive properties that it holds and adds to the meaning and interest of each painting.
